During this year’s 5 months the overall number of tourists coming to Thailand has dropped 5.9% due to political instability in the country, while the number of Russian tourists at the kingdom’s resorts, conversely, grew 12%.

Juthaporn Rerngronasa, CEO for International Marketing at Tourism Authority of Thailand in Europe, Africa, Middle East & America, spoke to Russian reporters about these matters at ТHAILAND TRAVEL MART PLUS AMAZING GATEWAY TO THE GREATER MEKONG SUBREGION (TTM+), an exhibition currently taking place in Bangkok.

She added that the global tourist flow to her country dropped mainly due to losses at Asian markets.

In answer to TRN’s question, the TAT representative stated that forecasts predicted this year’s tourist flow to the country to be almost the same as the year before, which is 20-26 million people. Russian tourist flow to the country in particular is predicted to experience the growth of up to 10%.

Last year Thailand was visited by 1.7 million Russians. According to Ms. Rerngronasa, by the end of 2014 the tourist flow will reach 1.9 million people.

These developments really show how much Russians love Thailand,’ she said.
