Russian Tourist Flow Rose 32% during 1HY 2013
Russian tourist flow in 2012 reached 15.3 million people in total, which is 6% more than in 2011. These people were serviced by about 4.7 thousand tour operators. Incidentally, the number of operators dropped 1% last year due to severe competition. These were the things deputy CMO of Moscow Domodedovo Airport Mikhail Polienko spoke about at the forum ‘Travel Destinations. Spring-Summer 2014’, reports TRN magazine’s correspondent.
According to Mr. Polienko, outward tourist flow during the first half-year of 2013 was set at 8.5 million people, which is 32% more than during the same period of 2012.
‘It is notable that up to 80% of tourist flow gives tour operators scope, while 20% give profit. In order for the ‘profitable share’ of tourists to grow, tour operators should offer a number of additional services to their clients,’ said the expert.
Some of these services include convenient transfer to the airport, baggage insurance, booking airlines’ additional services, checking for restrictions on exit from Russia, through check-in, travel SIM cards for abroad destinations and discount coupons for Duty Free shops.
‘It is also important to take into account the latest market trend, whereby a growing number of Russian tourists prefer to organize their trips on their own, which gives them more leeway,’ Mr. Polienko added.
According to a research by IATA, up to 90% of passengers want to get up-to-date information on any flight-related changes, 80% want to get the boarding ticket before arriving to the airport, 75% want to perform baggage check-in themselves and 70% prefer self-service whilst boarding a flight.
