Travel season in Abkhazia is not exactly going without a hitch. There had been an upsize in early bookings, but the political situation, as it so often does, undermined the plans, and demand dropped.
Only the countries with highly-developed travel industries have the privilege of actively fostering ecotourism. Vivid and bright Thailand, which has been gaining a lot of traction popularity-wise lately, is definitely among these countries. Travel business representatives from the world’s top tourist destinations were presented the philosophy of the Thai way of life at the Thailand Travel Mart (TTM+) exhibition.
“During the cleaning program, organized and supervised by the National Council for Peace and Order, things that hindered movement were removed from the beach, such as food kiosks, massage huts, and other illegal kiosks,” said CEO of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Thawatchai Arunyik. “Now each guest of the beach will be able to enjoy it in its pristine condition.”
Skiathos, covered with lush olive trees and century-old pines, is the smallest inhabited island of the Northern Sporades Archipelago; yet it is quite densely populated because of steep rocks and many wonderful beaches. Media tour participants, along with the first Russian tourists, got the opportunity to experience this exuberance when they set off for the island on June 1. The tour, as well as the flight program, was organized by Panteon tour operator.
The forum took place on June 16-17 in a new hotel Radisson Rosa Khutor. The event was devoted to discussing the ‘Role of mega-events in the sustainable development of tourism’.

Situation is complicated with the Crimean destination. On the one hand, hotels and health resorts of the peninsula are ready for tourists, and Russian tourists themselves are ready and willing to go to Crimea. The only problem – the issue of carriage remains unresolved. Most Russians used to travel to Crimea by train, but now many fear using railroads due to the volatile situation in Ukraine. Russian authorities are hard at work trying to set up some safe and cheap way by which to transport tourists. The success of the tourist season in Crimea hinges on how fast this way will be found. The Austrian Tourism Office presented travel opportunities of the European country to Siberians at the SITT exhibition, which opened in Novosibirsk Expoсentre on April 10. It is of note that 55% of global tourists prefer to go on holidays to Austria in summer, and 45% – in winter. As for Russia, only 32% of Russian tourists go to this country in summer, and 68% – in winter.
That is what Head of the Development Department of the Moscow Tourism and Hotel Business Committee Alexandr Kolesnikov believes, and he spoke about that during the business meeting ‘New Framework: Travel Business and Universities’. According to him, right now the capital’s travel firms are in need of about 4 thousand specialists.
On the eve of the Moscow spring week of travel business professionals, a new General Director of Tunisia’s National Tourism Office was appointed – Khaled Trabelsi, who then visited MITT-2014.
