Demand for excursion tours up 19% in July
Just as DSBW analysts predicted a month ago, in July 2014 the demand for excursion tours to Europe grew almost 19% as compared to June. At the same time, prices for excursion tours have dropped a little, about 6%. These are the results of Excursion Tour Index EXDEX for July 2014, which was compiled by the DSBW analysts.
The DSBW experts expect the demand for excursion tours in August to remain the same as in July, constituting about 20-22 thousand queries in various search engines.
EXDEX index has two components – EXDEX-D, index of demand for excursion tours, and EXDEX-P, price index of excursion tours.
EXDEX-D
The tour operator’s experts have analyzed 11 highest-ranking destinations, almost all of which showed some growth last month. These destinations include Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, the UK, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Norway. There were 21 thousand queries in total.
The list of leaders in queries for excursion tours in July looks as follows: Italy – 9,249 (up 20%), Spain – 4,275 (up 11%), France – 1,938 (up 6%), Portugal – 1,365 and the Czech Republic – 1,350.
Germany had 1,292 queries, Switzerland – 512, Austria – 418, Norway – 239, the UK – 136 and the Netherlands – 109.
EXDEX-P
For the purposes of analyzing the tour price index for July, the DSBW experts examined and compared the prices of the respective products offered by the Russian travel companies that work on the European excursion tours market.
The analysis was based on equivalent tours (as regards their length, accommodation category, tour package contents) offered by various Russian tour operators.
Upon summarizing the collected data, the analysts produced a general index that showed the average price of an excursion tour to Europe in July. The index was 850 points, indicating an average decrease of 6% for tour prices.
The top 10 leaders with the most expensive average tour price in July yet again included Switzerland – 1,603 points, then came the UK – 1,205 points, the Netherlands was third – 955 points, Portugal – fourth with 889 points, Spain – fifth with 799 points and Austria came in sixth, with 776 points.
The composite index of the tours to France was 726 points. The top three most affordable destinations were Germany – 701 points, the Czech Republic – 540 points, and Italy – 508 points.
