Russian domestic tourism grew 5-6%
“This year in Russia has gone by under the slogan ‘Fostering domestic and inbound tourism’. There has been no excess in tour operators’ bankruptcies, so the bailout fund ‘Turpomoshch’ has not been used,” such was the way head of Rostourism Alexander Radkov summarized year results at a press conference on Friday, December 13, reports the TRN correspondent.
According to him, there has been a 5-6% rise in domestic tourist flow, while the outbound flow grew 20% and the number of foreigners who came to Russia increased 10%.
“The year of cross-tourism between Italia and Russia will continue in 2014. There are plans to organize a lot of various events,” said Radkov. “Also being discussed is the idea of doing the same project with Turkey. The next year will be the year of mutual visits between Russia and Korea.”
The head of Rostourism is hopeful that the government will pass the law implementing the 72-hour visa-free regime for foreign citizens arriving in Russia via transit flights, and that the Sochi Olympics will provide an additional catalyst for the development of the Russian tourism.
Maya Lomidze, the CEO of ATOR (Association of Tour Operators of Russia), proceeded to voice the sales results for the domestic tourism during the winter holidays. The first two places are taken by the “Golden Ring” and St. Petersburg, Velikiy Ustuyg is the third, and then, with a large gap in between, follows Karelia, Moscow, Belarus and Ukraine.
