Demand for Karelian Tours Rises
Last year 595 thousand people came to Karelia, which is 55 thousand more as compared to the same period of 2012.
The region's travel industry yielded as much as 6 billion rubles. The number of specialists working in the travel segment also increased, amounting to 3,130 in 2013.
Local travel companies also noted the rise of interest in the destination.
"Sales grew last year not only thanks to Russian travelers, but to foreign tourists as well. Our company was able to boost sales through online promotion, which is one of the handiest marketing tools available today. When it comes to gaining publicity, even various exhibitions cannot hold a candle to the Internet,” General Director of Karelian company Belmortour Lyubov Pozina told TRN.
By the way, according to Delfin company, last year Karelia was one of the ten most popular domestic New Year destinations.
