Exhibition and Convention Cluster to be Built in St. Petersburg
A new economic cluster devoted to the meetings industry will be created in St. Petersburg in the coming years. It has been announced at Europe+Asia Event Forum 2014, which has been held in the city.
In her assessment of the potential of Russia’s northern capital as a destination for exhibition and business tourism, Head of Gdansk Convention Bureau and Chairwoman of ICCA Central European Chapter Anna Gorska said that St. Petersburg had considerable advantages over its competitors.
“When I was visiting St. Petersburg, I saw with my own eyes the vast opportunities it presented in terms of organizing various business events," she said. "And now, thanks to a new passenger terminal in the airport and a number of other large infrastructure facilities, the city is really well-suited for business tourism: I am positive that more and more meetings will be held here," she added.
Given the prospects for the development of the destination, the decision to create a new exhibition and convention cluster in the city has been made.
One of its main components will be the first branch of the exhibition and convention center ExpoForum, which is slated to open in October of 2014. It will house a convention center with the capacity of 10 thousand people, which in turn will have the main hall for 4.2 thousand people and a hall for gala performances seating 2 thousand people. Also there will be 2 business centers, 3 exhibition pavilions, warehouses and a customs terminal, as well as a large parking lot for 5.2 thousand cars, cafés, restaurants and roofed passages between pavilions for fast and comfortable movement from building to building,
Starting 2015, guests of the city will be able to stay at two hotels (Hilton Hotels & Resorts and Hampton by Hilton, with the collective capacity of 446 rooms).
The first events to take place at the new the exhibition and convention center will be Gas and St. Petersburg Energy Forums, which will be held simultaneously at the beginning of October, 2014.
ExpoForum International is actively engaged in the process of consolidating the efforts of the authorities and MICE industry participants to cement the city's image as a large international business center, says the company's General Director Sergei Voronkov. Opening a modern exhibition and convention center in St Petersburg will take these efforts to a whole new level, and also attract a larger number of world-class events to the city. The administration of the new complex is also willing to allocate premises for convention bureaus.
